We’re looking for people who feel passionately about writing, and who want to help early adolescents find their own voices. And, as a young nonprofit, with a tiny (albeit mighty) staff, we could genuinely use your help.
* Workshop Assistant – Although all of our workshops are small, with a maximum of ten students, the one-on-one attention of a volunteer can better help some struggling writers articulate their ideas.
* Community and School Outreach — Most people are thrilled to hear about Uptown Stories, and then wonder why they didn’t know about us before. We need your help communicating with your school’s administration, literacy teachers, PTA, and parent community.
* Editing, Graphic Design, and Layout — Our print anthologies are an incredible testament to the originality, humor, and conviction of our young writers, and they require a huge amount of work! We are looking for artists, editors, and detail-oriented folks to help us scan, compile, format, edit, proofread and layout our student anthologies. This volunteer work can be done remotely.
* Fundraising and Grant Writing — Pay-what-you-can tuition is a central value of Uptown Stories’ mission, but meeting that commitment is expensive. One of the most meaningful ways you can support Uptown Stories is by helping us connect with foundations, charitable businesses, and philanthropic individuals who want to support children’s writing. And, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency, all donations to Uptown Stories are 100% tax deductible.
